WELCOME TO YOUR FATHER'S DEN!

Welcome to Your Father's Den! Here you will find the"best of the best" of reel to reel music just like dear old Dad use to play. The format and genre will be similar to that of the Hut. I chose to do this blog because there are tapes out there in high quality analog that no one has ever heard before(including myself) It gives the listener a chance to hear some great music as it was meant to be heard. So I hope you will enjoy this new blog and I welcome any comments.

Rich, you are such a dude. 'Thank you' is beginning to seem inadequate, but I hope it will do.

More than you'll know, I'm just glad that there are people like you that truly have an appreciation for this music.

Rich,

Many, Many THANX for both of the "Sounds Of Top Brass" albums!!

This is my first visit to Your Father's Den, but it won't be my last!!

I'm very impressed with your copies of album covers!! You obviously aren't cut & pasting them, so do you have one of those pricey large copiers?? If I may ask, what brand/model??

I've been trying to copy some of my LP covers, but it's very time consuming, and guess who's a perfectionist??

Thanks again for all the great music as well as the fine art work!!

The Macs - Thanks, enjoy and keep up the great work on your blog.

Alan - It's really great when you find that special album that you've been looking for. An album that you thought was lost forever or that special song. When I was a child, I use to remember lying in bed listening to the TV. I remember this song that was on a commercial. I never knew what song or commercial it was. Well a few months ago I bought this reel to reel of The Brass Ring titled "The Dis-Advantage of You" I'm not sure why I bought it, I think it was because the seller had listed for half price. Well as it turned out, that was my song and upon further research, it was the song used on the Benson and Hedges cigarette commercial.

Kneigh - Actually I use my Sony digital camera, and I use Corel Paint Shop Pro XI to do the perspective correction and the flood and fill on the colored parts of the album. Which gives the album that freshly painted look. If you are really interested I might be able to make a screen capture of this process.

I finally got around to listening to the first Top Brass that I downloaded the other day, and as soon as I heard it I had to get vol. 2. I've never heard of Kapp Medallion before; I'll check out the sampler next.

Thanks much.

Rich/Jack,

Thanx for coming back on the album cover process. I've putzed with a camera before, but not much. I'll give it another whirl with a different approach.

Don't worry about making a screen capture of the process for now. Spend your time ripping & posting all this great music!! Everyone appreciates that!!

Devlin,
When I first started my reel to reel collection, I purchased this reel on a whim and been hooked ever since.

Kneigh,
When taking the photo of the album, I use a tri-pod and shoot the picture from 7-8 feet away using the zoom lens to get up close. This helps to prevent glare from the flash. If there is any glare, either from the flash or other light sources, you can shoot from a slight angle to where the glare is gone, that's if you have a software program that lets you perform a perspective correction (means you can correct the illusion of the photo going from large to small or visa versa). You'll get that illusion when you're taking a photo a square object that is not completely straight in front of the camera.

Rich, thanx much for taking the time to explain your cover procedures!!

When I return home, I'll get to work trying your ideas. Hopefully, this will also work for the large booklets that come with old LP sets and the Mosaic box sets.

Again, thanx for this and a great site!! Hope to see you more active soon. Say Hi to Jack!!

Aw, Rich, I don't know how to thank you for more of this fab music, but even the fact that links are still working 3.5 years after first uploading the music, BLOWS MY MIND!

Thank you, Rich. You 'Da Man!'
