WELCOME TO YOUR FATHER'S DEN!

Welcome to Your Father's Den! Here you will find the"best of the best" of reel to reel music just like dear old Dad use to play. The format and genre will be similar to that of the Hut. I chose to do this blog because there are tapes out there in high quality analog that no one has ever heard before(including myself) It gives the listener a chance to hear some great music as it was meant to be heard. So I hope you will enjoy this new blog and I welcome any comments.

THE MANY MOODS OF KAPP

The Many Moods Of Kapp/Medallion is a fine example of a sampler. I'm particularly fond of samplers because it's where I go to find artists I never heard of before. Plus you can't beat the variety of sounds and styles.

Great to see you litlgrey! By the way, I acquired a cat that just pushed his way into our house and hearts and decided to take up residence. His name is Spencer. I'll post some pics of him soon.

Bravo! Super!

Thanks Maxi, I'll try that.

Thanks Mel, Great hearing from you.

Peleon, I agree, you don't get the distortion on the highs due to record wear and needle damage.

Thanks Georgy, I'm glad you enjoy.

Thank you for all your efforts. Great stuff.

BTW. How much Pete King Chorale do you have? He did an album of music from funny Girl. I've heard tracks on a local 'ol time swing program.

Nice work, Rich.

A great companion for "The Many Moods of Kapp" could be "Moods Two" (AMPEX RSL-408).

All the best

Oh my freaking god! I think that I've just entered heaven in the Den and Hut. Man I got it into this sort of thing from listening to the "On the Rocks" Lounge channel on XM radio. Then after digging it for about a year os so they took it off the air to put on the Starbucks channel. This genre is really awesome. My first love is jazz and vocalists from the 50's and 60's but man this makes for great background music while reading, smoking a pipe, or having a cocktail or two after work. Not too intense like a Coltrane record but still sophisticated and interesting to listen to.

Rich,

Excellent site! I will be spending as much time here as I do over at VLH. I have recently purchased an AKAI 4 Channel Open Reel Deck, but haven't had the time to do much with it. Where do you find the tapes?

BTW, track 17 - I before E, except after C ;)

Thanks Big D!
You really must check out Buddies Lounge!! It's his own web radio show. It's the first link that I put on "Your Father's Den". Let me know what you think!

Inkydog,
E-bay my friend. Please tell me that you too will be posting some of that fine magnetic stuff! In celebration of your new toy I'll post an appropriate tape entitled,
"A Cheerful Earful" by Lew Davies and his orchestra.

Martooni,
Sorry I've been out for so long and getting back to you. I'm currently looking for more Pete King and his choral tapes.

Inkydog said...

Thanks for the Cheerful Earful mention, Rich! That was very kind of you. I'll let you know when I upload my first rip of an open reel recording.

I can't wait. I tell you the reel to reel can be a lot of fun especially in most cases where you get a reel that is so old but sounds like it's new.
